UPDATE: Highway re-opened
Just before 1:00 a.m., officers with the Lanark County OPP, firefighters and paramedics were called to a serious collision on Highway 7 between Highway 511 and Glen Tay Road.
Police say a minivan had left the road earlier and was stuck in the snow.
A flatbed tow truck was preparing to pull it out when an eastbound car hit both vehicles.
The van’s driver, who was standing near his vehicle, was also struck.
The 44-year-old man from Ottawa was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The tow truck operator and six people in the car were not hurt.
The investigation continues with help from OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement officers, including collision reconstruction and technical investigators.
Highway 7 stayed closed overnight.
