Smiths Falls police are urging drivers to slow down and take extra care as winter weather creates hazardous road conditions across the community.
Community services officer Const. Sean Keogan says officers have seen a rise in dangerous situations, especially involving vehicles that are not properly cleared.
Keogan says drivers can face fines under the Highway Traffic Act and are putting others at risk when snow and ice remain on their vehicles.
He says simple steps can make a big difference for road safety.
Police also remind residents to clear headlights, taillights and licence plates before leaving.
Keogan says families, children, emergency crews and pedestrians all depend on drivers doing their part.
He adds planning ahead, slowing down at intersections and avoiding rushing through lights can help prevent injuries and reduce strain on local emergency services.
