The Town of Smiths Falls is reminding residents that taking part in its Water Meter Replacement Program is mandatory for properties that have been identified for an upgrade.
The town has hired Neptune Technology Group to complete the work at no cost to the property owner.
Property owners at affected addresses have already received several written notices with instructions on how to book an appointment.
Installations usually take only a short time and include a brief water shut off.
Tenants who receive a notice are being asked to make sure their landlord is aware of the requirement.
The town says continued non compliance may lead to further action under municipal by law and established procedures.
Residents with questions about the program can contact water billing clerk Kari Code by phone at 613 283 4124, extension 1149, or by email at kcode@smithsfalls.ca.
The town says the upgrades support accurate billing and planning for the water system in Smiths Falls.
