It’s not often volunteers get major recognition and most, when asked, never consider accolades when they roll up their sleeves for a great cause. Sherryl Smith, one of the founders of Bridging Generations-Age Friendly Pakenham took it all in stride when the Province recognized her group at the Rural Ontario Municipal Assocation Conference for their work in improving both her community and the lives of its residents. She notes a lot of her volunteering time was related to her career in healthcare. Smith stresses the benefits to seniors of giving their time in whatever cause they might support. The work of Bridging Generations helped give Pakenham the recognition this year of being an age-friendly community from the Ontario Minister of Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho.
