The Southeast Public Health Board of Health has voted to pause branch office closures and parts of its Rural Services Delivery Strategy as it looks ahead to 2026.
The board held a special meeting Feb. 10 in Kingston, called by Chair Nathan Townend, to discuss next steps following the recent merger.
Members approved a motion to hire a third-party consultant to develop a new strategic plan and create a clear vision for the future of public health services across the southeast region.
The resolution pauses further implementation of the rural strategy and any office closures until the new strategic plan is complete and approved.
“Our communities can be proud of this Board,” Townend said, adding members remain committed to strengthening public health and ensuring the success of the merger.
The next Board of Health meeting is scheduled for Feb. 25.
