A Carleton Place man has been found guilty of multiple sexual violence-related offences following a judge-alone trial in Perth’s Superior Court of Justice.
Marcel Lapensee, 58, was convicted earlier this month on six combined charges of sexual assault, assault and voyeurism. The charges stemmed from incidents in late 2022 and the spring of 2023.
The four-day trial was held in mid-January.
The court heard evidence from the complainant, along with hospital records, photographs, text messages and videos.
In delivering his decision, the judge found the complainant’s evidence credible and reliable. He also pointed to significant problems with Lapensee’s testimony, noting it did not align with video recordings entered as exhibits.
A publication ban remains in place to protect the identity of the complainant and any witnesses.
The court has ordered a pre-sentence report and a sexual behaviours assessment. Lapensee is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on July 2.
