The Ottawa Heart Institute has launched a major new prevention program called One Million Canadian Hearts, aimed at catching heart disease risk before people get sick.
Chief Nursing Officer Bonnie Bowes told our Lynda D’Aoust, the institute is shifting its focus.
Bowes says the program screens people who have not been diagnosed with heart disease for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, weight and other risk factors.
Bowes told Lynda that they continue to wait for solid data, but have an idea of early results.
The institute is expanding clinics into the community through partnerships and a train-the-trainer model to reach more Canadians.
