Council in Smiths Falls has agreed to create a new steering committee to help guide planning for a proposed regional recreation facility.
The committee will provide high-level advice on key issues such as governance, facility design priorities, partnership contributions, and potential funding strategies.
Councilor Peter McKenna notes the Town of Perth is exploring a similar route and calls for collaboration.
Director of Community Services Stephanie Clark says these committees have their place.
The town’s continuing to explore a brand new recreation centre with early estimates of $50 million.
They approved a new arena and fieldhouse in principle in August.
The committee will include three members of council, five representatives from partner municipalities, and four members from local user groups.
