March is Nutrition Month in Canada, and a local dietitian says small, practical steps can make a big difference to overall health.
Glenna Sauvé, a registered dietitian with Rideau Community Health Services, tells our Lynda D’Aoust, this year’s theme “Nourish to Flourish” encourages people to see food as a tool for prevention, not just treatment.
Sauvé tells Lynda healthy eating begins before stepping into a grocery store. Planning meals, checking what is already at home and creating an organized list can reduce stress, save money and limit food waste.
She also notes new front-of-package labels required by Health Canada now make it easier to spot foods high in sodium, sugar or saturated fat.
Sauvé adds that affordable options like frozen vegetables, beans and whole grains can support healthy eating even as food prices rise.
