Local MP Michael Barrett says the federal government could reduce some of the burden from rising gas prices by removing taxes on fuel.
Barrett says there are underlying taxes that could be cut.
He said he is supportive of an affordability measure like that.
Barrett also warned that higher fuel costs will continue to affect the local economy, including tourism, a key revenue source for our listening area, especially as summer approaches.
Barrett says any government move to ease fuel costs would likely receive strong public support.
As the conflict in the Middle East continues, residents of Lanark and Leeds (and beyond) are cutting costs wherever they can as the cost of living rises.
Barrett says a reduction in gas taxes is one possible way to provide relief to households already struggling with daily expenses.
