Carleton Place council has put the brakes on a planned childcare fee hike.
Council’s committee recently approved a 2.1% increase to the daycare rates for school-aged children. It wouldn’t have applied to younger clients, up to age five, as those fees are frozen under the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
The new rates were to take effect on June 1st.
At the full council meeting on March 24th where the hike was to be ratified, staff informed council that daycare management recently learned that doing so would end the province’s Local Priority Funding that the Town receives through Lanark County. Staff recommended scrapping the hike, which council agreed to do.
