A renewed warning has been issued for the Mississippi River and Carp River watersheds as warmer temperatures and rainfall raise the risk of flooding.
The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority says a stretch of mild weather, with highs reaching 10°C and rainfall totals of 20 to 50 millimetres, is expected to accelerate snowmelt this week.
Officials say this could trigger a second freshet, leading to rising water levels and faster flows in rivers and streams.
Unstable ice conditions are also a concern, increasing the risk of ice jams and sudden water level changes.
Residents are being urged to stay away from waterways due to slippery banks and strong currents.
Those in flood-prone areas are advised to monitor conditions closely and take precautions, including checking sump pumps and securing outdoor items.
The advisory remains in effect until April 8 or until further updates are issued.
