At 4:40 am on Easter Sunday, Carleton Place fire services responded to a fire on a balcony at an apartment building on Bridge Street on the corner of High Street.
The fire burned through a section of exterior walling and roof structure, as well causing interior damage.
Of the ten units in the building, three were vacant but the residents of the remaining seven units were displaced. Everyone, including pets escaped successfully and two residents were transported to Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital for assessment.
Carleton Place Fire Department was joined on scene by Mississippi Mills, and Beckwith fire services as well as OPP, and EMS. CP Fire Department Deputy Chief Dave Joy reported no concerns of foul play.
Red Cross and victims services were on scene and helped tenants with temporary lodging.
Power has been disconnected from the building with a value loss of between $700,000 and $1 million.
