Lanark County Council has approved a new policy framework aimed at supporting affordable housing across the region.
Council has adopted Official Plan Amendment No. 16, adding new policies designed to guide local municipalities in addressing housing needs. Officials say the changes are meant to be flexible, allowing communities to respond based on their unique challenges and opportunities.
Planning Manager Mike Dwyer says the policies support both market-based and service-provider housing solutions while aligning with provincial planning requirements.
The amendment includes measures such as setting housing targets, permitting additional residential units and encouraging the use of surplus public land for housing development.
It also calls for accessible design, with at least 25 per cent of supported housing units meeting accessibility standards.
The county says the updated plan will help shape future development and improve access to affordable and supportive housing options for residents across Lanark County
