Perth Blue Wings Midget A 2001-02
The Perth and District Sports Hall of Fame has unveiled a diverse 2026 induction class, recognizing athletes, builders and a championship team whose achievements span more than a century of sport.
Chair Tim Zander says this year’s group reflects both elite competition and the local volunteers and pioneers who helped shape sport in the region.
Leading the class is Nick Tritton, a two-time Olympian in judo and multiple-time Canadian champion whose international success put Lanark Highlands on the map. Zander says Tritton’s accomplishments made him a natural fit for induction.
Also joining the Hall is Gary Mahon, recognized for a hockey career that included the Perth Blue Wings, Oshawa Generals, university hockey and more.
Builder David Thompson is being honoured for decades of devotion to figure skating, including the Spirit of Skating Award, which has recognized more than 100 young skaters since 1991. Zander calls him a quiet champion in the community.
Another builder, Albert Lyon, is being recognized posthumously for helping guide lacrosse’s transition from field to box lacrosse and for selecting Canada’s 1932 Olympic lacrosse team.
Rounding out the class is the Perth Blue Wings Midget A girls team which had a stunning success over 20 years ago.
The free induction ceremony takes place May 24 at 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Perth, with refreshments to follow and a livestream available.
Zander says the public is encouraged to attend and celebrate local sporting history.
