A new community raffle is helping raise money to maintain Perth’s upcoming commemorative veterans crosswalk, with organizer Don Rideout saying the support behind the project continues to grow.
The crosswalk, planned near the Tay Basin between Crystal Palace and the waterfront, is designed to honour both earlier and modern generations of veterans.
Rideout said businesses, restaurants, golf courses and individuals have donated a wide range of prizes.
Among the prizes is a hand-carved Canadian flag featuring a kneeling veteran, created by Rideout himself.
Rideout said the final design of the crosswalk incorporates symbols representing veterans past and present.
While fundraising has helped move the project toward installation, Rideout said maintaining the crosswalk over time will require continued community support. prompting the launch of the raffle.
He says support has been amazing.
Tickets are $5 each and buyers can choose which prize package they want to enter for. The draw will take place June 5, ahead of a June 7 dedication ceremony.
