The Maltese Falcon back to the community where it began.
The production, which opened Thursday night, runs through May 10 and marks a homecoming for playwright David Jacklin, whose adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s famed novel has also been staged internationally.
Jacklin said the work stays remarkably faithful to the source material, with nearly all of the dialogue drawn directly from the original novel.
Director David Bird said the production captures the gritty film noir atmosphere.
Bird said much of the production’s strength comes from volunteers handling costumes, props and period details that help transport audiences to the 1930s.
He adds the cast had to learn more than just their lines.
Jacklin says the play is an entertaining trip back in time, that they wanted to be as authentic as possible.
Performances continue with evening shows tonight and next Thursday and Friday, with matinee shows over the next two weekends.
