Early signs of the next municipal election are beginning to take shape across Perth, Smiths Falls and Carleton Place.
With candidacy declarations opening Friday, a handful of unofficial candidates have already stepped forward in two of the three towns.
In Perth, Stephanie Drummond has entered the mayoral race.
Smiths Falls is also seeing early movement, with Nate Morris and Chris Cummings both putting their names forward for mayor.
As of this morning, no candidates have declared for mayor in Carleton Place.
There have been no declarations for deputy mayor in Perth or Carleton Place, and the position does not exist in Smiths Falls.
Councillor races remain wide open in all three municipalities, with no candidates filing nomination papers so far.
The same applies to school board trustee positions across all three local boards, where no candidates have come forward.
The nomination period remains open through the summer, with the Certified Official List of Candidates set to be finalized on August 24, leaving time for more candidates to enter the race.
