Following last week’s announcement from Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce, thousands of parents have signed up to receive the cash infusion offered because of the impact the rotating teachers strikes have caused.
Former Minister of Education Lisa Thompson spoke to myFM about the latest move.
The Huron-Bruce MPP feels they’ve moved their stance enough to get a deal done.
Parents are eligible for a certain amount of funding depending on your child’s age, up to $60 per day of learning that’s lost and you will be compensated to days lost prior to the announcement.
Thompson says the multi-millions the infusion costs is not new money, it’s being transferred over from the teacher’s earnings from that day as they aren’t paid when they’re picketing.
Eligible parents can apply for the financial support online up to four weeks after the labour disruption has ended.
