A new long-term care home has officially opened in Smiths Falls, bringing 128 modern beds to the community and creating hundreds of jobs in the process.
The Ontario government announced the opening of the new Broadview Nursing Home, calling it a major step in expanding long-term care capacity across the province.
The new one-storey facility replaces the former Broadview Nursing Centre in Smiths Falls and Hilltop Manor in Merrickville. Residents began moving into the new home in December 2025.
The home is designed to create a more comfortable living environment, with four smaller resident home areas, each serving up to 32 people. Features include dining and activity spaces, lounges, private bedrooms, a café, hair salon, multi-faith room and three secure outdoor courtyards with walking paths and gardens.
Premier Doug Ford said the project is part of the province’s larger infrastructure plan aimed at expanding health care and long-term care access.
Lanark—Frontenac—Kingston MPP John Jordan said the new facility is an important investment for Lanark County, helping ensure residents can stay closer to family and friends while receiving care.
Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow said the new home strengthens the community’s continuum of care, especially as the local population ages.
Broadview president Jim Parsons called the opening a meaningful milestone for residents, staff and families, saying the purpose-built home was designed to be welcoming and supportive.
The project is expected to support about 170 permanent local jobs, including nursing, personal support work, administration and nutrition services. Construction also created about 210 jobs.
Provincewide, Ontario says it remains committed to building 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds.
