A Drummond-North Elmsley resident is facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver in Carleton Place.
Lanark County OPP say officers were called on Saturday, May 23, just after 11:15 p.m., after receiving a complaint about a vehicle being driven with four flat tires.
Police say officers approached the vehicle, but the driver fled. The vehicle was stopped a short time later on Townline Road West in Carleton Place.
The driver was arrested and taken to the Carleton Place OPP detachment for testing.
As a result of the investigation, police have charged 25-year-old Jewel Chole Canough of Drummond-North Elmsley with flight from a peace officer and failure or refusal to comply with a breath demand.
Police say the accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Monday, July 13.
OPP have not reported any injuries in connection with the incident.
Police continue to remind drivers that impaired driving remains a serious safety concern on local roads. Officers say anyone who suspects a driver may be impaired should call 911 when it is safe to do so.
Drivers charged with impaired-related offences can face immediate roadside penalties, licence suspensions, vehicle impoundment and court dates, depending on the circumstances.
OPP say public reports are an important part of keeping roads safe, especially during late-night hours when impaired driving complaints are more common.
The charges have not been proven in court.
