At Mississippi Mills recent council meeting, a delegation provided an update on the progress of the Almonte Civitan’s accessible community playground project. Planning work began in 2024 to create an accessible and inclusive playground on the club’s property next to their community hall on Almonte Street.
A budget of $900K was set and accepted by the club.
Fundraising consultant Margaret Miller provided some good news on their progress to date.
The inclusive playground is being designed to minimize physical and social barriers and will include a walking track where community members, in particular seniors, can maintain and improve their fitness and mobility in a safe environment.
It will also contain features that permit visitors of different abilities to play together.
Miller speaks of the lasting impact the facility will bring.
With over $450K left to raise, the club will continue to apply for grants, collaborate with local and regional organizations, and increase public awareness of the both the needs for such a playground as well as the club’s efforts to achieve their goal.
Councillors provided advice on who to approach for assistance as well as how the club can work with the municipality to see the project come to fruition.
Those interested in donating to this very worthwhile cause can go to almontecivitan.com/playground.
Construction is planned to start next year.
