A Beckwith Township resident is facing impaired driving charges after a RIDE check in Drummond-North Elmsley Township.
Lanark County OPP say officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere check on Rideau Ferry Road on Friday, May 22.
Police say a traffic stop was conducted at about 10 p.m.
The driver was arrested and taken to the OPP detachment in Perth for testing.
As a result of the investigation, 40-year-old Michael Scala of Beckwith Township has been charged with operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration over 80, and operation while impaired — alcohol.
Police say the accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Monday, July 6.
OPP say the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days under an Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension. The vehicle was also impounded for seven days.
Police say RIDE checks remain an important tool to help keep impaired drivers off local roads.
The checks can happen at any time of day or night and are used across the province to screen drivers for alcohol or drug impairment.
OPP continue to remind motorists that impaired driving can lead to criminal charges, roadside penalties, licence suspensions and vehicle impoundments.
Police also say there are many safe options for people who have been drinking, including calling a sober driver, using a taxi or rideshare, or staying overnight.
Anyone who sees a driver they believe may be impaired is asked to call 911 when it is safe to do so.
The charges have not been proven in court.
