Rideau Lakes council is not moving ahead with a proposed clean-air refuge during wildfire smoke events.
Council received a report after staff examined whether the Portland Community Hall could serve as a temporary cleaner-air space.
Councilor Marcia Maxwell felt priorities should be placed elsewhere after reading the report.
Several councillors questioned whether the $6,000 cost was justified given the limited number of complaints from residents dealing with asthma and respiratory issues.
Councillor Deborah Hutchings offered her opinion.
Council voted unanimously to receive the report for information and offer no further action.
