Rideau Lakes council has voted to defer participation in a proposed regional recreation steering committee connected to possible future arena and fieldhouse plans in Smiths Falls.
Council debated concerns over governance, transparency and financial information before voting to postpone involvement until the next term of council.
The proposed committee would provide regional input on possible future recreation facilities in Smiths Falls, including governance models, partnerships and funding approaches.
Smiths Falls officials say the steering committee is separate from ongoing negotiations surrounding the current regional recreation cost-sharing agreement, which expires December 31st.
