Just two days after issuing a level 3 burn risk notice, the Mississippi Mills Fire Department has raised the community’s burn risk to Level 4 — Extreme Risk, effective June 4, due to ongoing dry conditions.
Under the new restrictions, only supervised campfires are permitted, and residents are reminded to keep extinguishing equipment immediately available.
The Ministry of Natural Resources has also issued an elevated forest fire danger rating for the region.
An active 2026 burn permit is required before any open-air burning. Residents can obtain a free permit online at mm.burnpermits.com or by calling 613-256-2064, option 7. Permit holders must also activate their permit before each burn by calling 613-706-4004.
The fire department is also reminding residents that brush, drum, and windrow fires are not allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from April 1 through October 31.
More information is available through the Mississippi Mills Fire Department webpage, by phone at 613-256-2064 option 7, or by email at fireadmin@mississippimills.ca.
