A new Financial Anxiety Index poll from United Way Canada shows two thirds of people in Ontario feel anxious about their finances, up six per cent from last year.
United Way Eastern Ontario CEO Rachael Wilson says that increase is concerning, especially as a Leger poll finds 47 per cent of Eastern Ontario residents are facing at least one concrete sign of financial hardship, including trouble putting food on the table.
Nationally, almost one third of people say their financial situation has worsened over the past six months, with single parents, newcomers and youth among the most affected.
Wilson says United Way Eastern Ontario is focusing its efforts on ending youth homelessness, with a goal of raising one million dollars over five years.
She says donations are especially helpful right now, as the Turnbull Family Foundation is matching
