A new affordable housing development in Perth remains on track to welcome its first residents in January, with construction moving ahead and project leaders confident the building will be ready on time.
The Linden Housing Cooperative at 79 Wilson Street West is expected to provide 39 units of affordable housing, including 10 rent-geared-to-income apartments and eight fully accessible units designed for wheelchair users.
Stephen Welchner, chair of the housing co-op, said favourable weather has helped crews make up time lost during a challenging winter construction season.
Construction began in early winter and faced delays caused by snow and cold temperatures. Welchner said the project is now nearly back on schedule and remains on track for occupancy at the start of 2026.
The development includes 36 units in a newly constructed building and three additional units that will be created within the existing home on the property.
Welchner said the project has also remained under budget, crediting the work of the development and construction teams helping guide the project from planning through construction.
Applications for the first residents remain open until July 31. Once applications close, eligible applicants will be invited to information sessions and interviews before successful members are selected.
Housing charges are expected to be below comparable new-build rental rates, while the co-op model will give residents a voice in how their community is operated and maintained.
