Seniors in Smiths Falls, Perth and across Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston will benefit from a new round of provincial grants aimed at keeping older adults active, connected and involved in their communities.
MPP John Jordan says eight organizations and municipalities in the riding are receiving Ontario Seniors Community Grants. The funding supports local programs that help reduce barriers, encourage social connection and improve health and well-being for older adults.
Jordan says the work behind those programs often starts with local volunteers.
In Smiths Falls, the Smiths Falls Curling Club is receiving $22,950 for a seniors wellness program. Jordan says the project is a strong example of funding that encourages both physical activity and community engagement.
The Smiths Falls Community Band is also receiving $9,975, supporting another local program that brings people together through music and shared community involvement.
In Perth, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 244 is receiving $16,725 for a video project focused on local veterans. Jordan says the project will help capture stories that can be preserved for the community now and in the years ahead.
Other grants include $9,950 for Kennebec Area Seniors, $4,836 for the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, $7,070 for the Township of Beckwith, $21,197 for North Frontenac, and $16,630 for Royal Canadian Legion Branch 425 in Sharbot Lake.
Jordan says the projects reflect needs identified by local groups, ranging from wellness and heritage work to new technology in community halls.
Across Ontario, the province is investing up to $7 million in more than 320 Seniors Community Grants this year. Individual projects can receive up to $25,000. Since 2018, Ontario says it has invested more than $40 million in over 2,100 projects.
