The Smiths Falls Police Service says a 96-year-old Smiths Falls man whose body was found in the water near Queen Street died of natural causes.
Police were called on July 7 after a boater reported discovering a body near the shoreline. Members of the Smiths Falls Police Service, Lanark County Paramedic Service, and Smiths Falls Fire Service responded to the scene, where the individual was pronounced deceased.
The deceased was identified as John Everett, 96, of Smiths Falls.
A post-mortem examination conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner determined that Everett suffered a heart attack and that his death was the result of natural causes.
Police have extended their condolences to Everett’s family and friends.
