Education union members were thrown off guard on Tuesday after the Minister of Education called a new conference.
Minister Stephen Lecce made an announcement to the media about class sizes, and e-learning, without even bringing the issues to the bargaining tables.
Local OSSTF Secondary Teacher President Shane Restall says there are still lots of questions.
Restall says the union and the government had exploratory talks which started Sunday, lasted all through Monday, and into Tuesday until the Minister made the announcement.
Restall adds the big question is why wasn’t it done at the negotiating table, as nothing is set in stone or written on paper until it’s done at the bargaining table but this seems like a step in the right direction.
