Following a lengthy outage, Bruce Power’s Unit 4 nuclear reactor is back in service.
The 119-day shutdown was undertaken as a planned life extension and represented Canada’s largest private-sector infrastructure project.
Gord Kozak, vice-president, Bruce A said the approximately $130-million investment will allow the unit to perform reliably ahead of a major component replacement scheduled for 2025.
Kozak added performing the work safely and on schedule during the COVID-19 pandemic “speaks to the commitment and professionalism of everyone involved in this outage.”
The clean electricity generated from this unit contributes to 60 per cent of Ontario’s electricity supply from nuclear.
