Smiths Falls is joining a chorus of other municipalities calling on the provincial government for affordable childcare options.
A letter of support is being circulated across Ontario and receiving tons of it, asking the province to strike a deal with the feds to join the National Childcare program.
The intent of the $34 billon program is to allows for lower childcare feeds for parents, among other things.
10 provinces from coast to coast have signed an agreement to join with Ontario on the small list of those on the outside looking in.
Councillor Wendy Alford said it’s time for Ontario to join the list.
The province has indicated interest in the National Childcare Plan in the past, but nothing has materialized.
The hope is this gentle nudge from municipalities refreshes any talks which may have occurred.
