Future recreation facilities were on the table for discussion at Carleton Place council’s committee of the whole meeting on Tuesday.
Carleton Place’s culture and recreation manager, Joanne Henderson brought the committee up to date on a number of initiatives that had been brought forward from various community groups.
Plans are in the works for a new multi-use hard pad at Carleton Junction which would be designed for basketball and pickleball sports during warmer months and could be used as an ice pad in winter.
Preliminary discussions are underway for a new gathering space at Riverside Park and upgrades are being planned for the ball diamond on Lake Avenue West.
Timelines and funding have yet to be finalized.
She also reported that the town’s parks and recreation committee opposes accepting anything less than the 5% park-land dedication for new subdivisions as mandated by land-use regulations.
