Teachers and support staff with the Canadian Union of Public Employees voted 93 percent in favour of job action if necessary, and that’s prompted the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario to issue a statement.
The ETFO says they will hold mass meetings with their 83 thousand members in September and October to discuss central bargaining issues.
The meetings will also see a central strike vote, as holding a central strike vote is one part of the legal bargaining process under Ontario labour laws.
The goal of the union is to reach an agreement at the central bargaining table without having to take job actions, but negotiations will continue until a fair and reasonable deal is reached.
Members are being asked to demonstrate their support for the ETFO bargaining priorities.
