March is Fraud Prevention Month in Canada — and the Lanark County Detachment of the OPP and the Smiths Falls Police Service are doing their part to help keep their residents from getting scammed.
OPP Constable Joe Tereschuk tells Lake 88 the phone is key tool for scammers, and many use auto-dialers to fish for victims.
The Constable says he doesn’t answer his home phone because of the number of scams, adding if it’s a legitimate call they’ll leave a message.
We will be providing tips from Constable Tereschuk and the Smiths Falls Police Service’s Aaron Tompson throughout the month on air at Lake 88.1 FM, and online.
