The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance has confirmed they are the victims of a ransomware attack, and their IT system continues to be shut down.
They say a team of experts are currently assisting with the situation, including industry experts in cyber security, forensics, and virus detection.
LWHA is planning for an outage that will last for several days, and will not be able to share information with other health care organizations until they are positive their systems are safe again.
Emergency departments in Listowel and Wingham remain open, while non urgent visitors may have longer wait times, deferred care, or redirected to other locations.
Hospitals in Goderich, Walkerton, and Palmerston have offered assistance with patient volumes during this time.
