An update now from a story from last week: Lanark County has changed its hiring policy to allow relatives employment opportunities.
Immediate relatives of county department heads and other managers can now be hired, as long as they don’t report directly to the family member.
Concerns about the move were shared by a handful of councillors, but Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow thinks it covers the bases of potential conflict.
Councillor Rickey Minnille opposed the update, referring to a past situation in Mississippi Mills where family ties created a difficult employment situation as the reason.
This was the first policy update since 2005.
