At Perth’s committee of the whole meeting Tuesday night, the Rocky Ramps cropped up again for another report.
Council was given 2 presentations by staff from the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and Parks Canada to explain the recent low levels of water flow through Perth and the inability of the watershed to compensate.
As a result, the canal portion of the waterway has become fouled with stagnant organics, emitting strong odours in the summer.
The town’s director of environmental services, Grant Machan, proposed having the ramp repaired in-house at a cost of $146,900.
The results of a recorded vote approved the staff proposal, a decision which will require formal council ratification.
