It didn’t take long to end a work stoppage at CP Rail that was threatening Canada’s already stressed-out supply chain.
The Rail Company and the Teamsters union have agreed to final and binding arbitration.
Word came early this morning from Federal Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan who tweeted his thanks to the two sides.
A statement issued early this morning from a Teamsters Canada Rail Conference spokesperson said while arbitration was not the preferred method, they were able to negotiate terms and conditions that were in the best interest of its members, with wages and pensions still stumbling blocks.
In a statement of his own, C-P President and C-E-O Keith Creel said CP is pleased to have reached the agreement to enter into binding arbitration, enabling it to resume essential services for customers and the North American supply chain.
Workers at the Smiths Falls and other CP sites will be back on the job at noon today.
