Independent MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston Randy Hillier has surrendered to Ottawa Police.
He told reporters gathered at Ottawa Police Headquarters that he expected to face counts related to the Freedom Convoy protests last month.
Ottawa Police have now released the charges that have been laid against him.
HILLIER was charged by the Criminal Investigations Unit with:
- CCC 430 (3) Mischief/Obstruct Property Exceeding $5000 X1
- CCC 464 (a) Counsel An Uncommitted Indictable Offence (Mischief) X2
- CCC 430 (3) Mischief/Obstruct Property Exceeding $5000 X1
- CCC 129 (a) Obstruct/Resist Person Aiding Public/Peace Officer X1
- CCC 129 (a) Obstruct/Resist A Public Officer X2
- CCC 270 (1) (a) Assault Peace Or Public Officer X1
- CCC 464 (a) Counsel An Uncommitted Indictable X1
A bail hearing will be needed due to the severity of the charges he faces. Hillier will be in court today.
Hillier announced he will not seek re-election.Hillier reacted to teh charges via a news release, saying in part, “I look forward to the opportunity to defend myself against these charges. Questioning and challenging public policy is the role and responsibility of any elected representative.”
He added, “Non-violent civil disobedience has been a globally accepted means of expressing grievance against governments, until 2022 in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Canada.”
