Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government says it will increase minimum wage by 50 cents this fall to 15-dollars-and-50-cents.
In what is seen as the latest election promise as it seeks re-election the Ford Government says the move would help workers keep up with rising inflation.
Affordability including the cost of living, rent or home ownership, and the cost of food, is expected to be a dominant election issue to be addressed by all parties.
The raise announced yesterday could be an annual event.
Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says the government would make an announcement each April about a planned minimum wage increase, based on inflation, with the change to take effect each October.
The new wage announced yesterday would kick that off this coming October 1st.
