Perth Director of Environmental Services Grant Machan was recommending the status quo on the Chetwynd Craig Streets intersection at Perth council’s committee of the whole meeting on Tuesday.
After comments from Mayor John Fenik last year on his tractor-trailer ride-along experience, staff contracted McIntosh and Perry to review the intersection’s effectiveness in safely accommodating large trucks.
Fenik, who was absent on Tuesday, was adamant that tractor-trailers could not make a right-hand turn onto Craig Street without moving into the opposing lane.
The engineer’s report indicated only minor encroachments were required with limited safety concerns. However, it recommended that this current truck route, designed to reduce heavy vehicle use of Gore Street should continue to be monitored.
The committee voted to receive the report as information with no further action.
