SF Council talks about the new parkette
More downtown improvements are on the way to Smiths Falls.
Staff were successful in receiving a near $100,000 provincial grant to install a parkette and create a large mural on the north-west corner of Russell Street and Beckwith Street.
The mural would be painted on the side of Shoppers Drug Mart.
A parkette will address an overlooked part of downtown and practically finish its facelift, says Smiths Falls councillor Wendy Alford.
As for what the mural may look like, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism Julia Crowder said they’re leaving it up to the local artists.
The mural would be painted on the side of Shoppers and will be the focal point of the corner.
Crowder said the parkette will be a lovely place for residents and visitors to enjoy the downtown.
