At last week’s Perth Council meeting, councillors reversed an earlier decision on hiring a coordinator for the town’s climate change committee.
Deputy Mayor Ed McPherson put forward a motion to reconsider council’s previous decision not to fund a part-time coordinator.
This was an approved 2022 budget expense.
New information received indicated that the position could help attract new provincial and federal grants.
It was also learned that new provincial regulations on municipal asset management will require climate change impact policies, a task that the new coordinator could help with.
The motion to approve the hiring was carried unanimously.
