An Ontario judge has shot down Local MPP Randy Hillier’s request to have the terms of his bail conditions changed.
The independent LFK MPP was looking to be allowed to visit downtown Ottawa and to have his online activity on social media platforms restored.
The once-Ontario PC MPP received intense criticism for supporting and attending the Ottawa occupation by anti-vaccine mandate protesters. He also faces a slew of charges related to other anti-mandate rallies during the pandemic, some of which he organized or helped organize.
Among the charges Hillier faces in Ottawa stemming from his actions during the Freedom Convoy, are two counts each of obstructing a public officer, counselling mischief and mischief/obstructing property over $5,000. He also faces charges of obstructing a person aiding a peace officer, assaulting a peace or public officer, and counselling an uncommitted indictable offence.
The judge told the court yesterday that in the current circumstances, a reference to this weekend’s Ottawa Protest by anti-mandate bikers, that it was appropriate to keep the bail conditions as they are.
Hillier’s lawyer said he had no plans to attend the rally and that this request was made before the rally was even announced for this weekend.
