Lanark County Warden John Fenik, who is also Mayor of Perth, is looking at Premier Doug Ford’s Conservative Government’s budget released yesterday afternoon and is concerned about the future when it comes to provincial debt.
The Ford Tories tabled a $198.6 billion budget that would only be passed if they are re-elected. It’s basically an election platform and none of the spending is guaranteed.
When it comes to the County of Lanark perspective, Warden Fenik says tax breaks for seniors, and other increased spending on hospitals is good, but the document fails to address some key needs in the county.
Wearing his Mayor’s cap, Fenik says he likes the infrastructure funding and will be fighting to get some of those dollars for Perth and the county.
But Fenik reiterated that the budget doesn’t do enough at any level to address overall affordability issues, like housing, the cost of gas, and the price to feed families in the county and beyond.
All those are expected to be key issues when the writ is dropped.
