OFA President, Peggy Brekveld
Affordability is the number one issue on the mind of voters as we head toward the June 2nd election in Ontario.
While housing makes up a large part of the equation, gas prices and the price of food are also key in our day-to-day lives. And those two factors have a strong link.
President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture Peggy Brekveld tells Lake 88 it has been hard for farmers who get hit twice as hard – they need the fuel to produce our food.
Brekveld says to avoid raising prices more than they have to, farmers eat some of the costs. But she says costs go hand in hand with how they grow food. They plant it, give it the conditions it needs, then harvest it with equipment.
She says she has a couple pieces of advice for Ontario consumers.
Brekveld says famers also have grave concerns about margins thanks to inflation. However, she is hopeful a good crop will help farmers in our region deal with the issue.
