The HMCS Haida served the Royal Canadian Navy for 20 years in World War II and the Korean War, and a local group wants to restore its replica.
The original ship now resides in Hamilton as a tourist attraction, but the replica constructed in 1967 by late Perth resident and veteran Jack Walker roamed the waters for the same purpose for over 40 years.
Now, the Friends of the Haida want the original replica repaired and on the waters again, which is still possible according to Ron Shaw who spoke to Lanark County
Lanark County warden John Fenik is on board with the restoration idea.
The group would like to see County Council to find a means to undertake administration of an HMCS Haida Restoration Project Funding Account on their behalf. allowing the group to issue tax receipts.
The horseshoe directed staff to conduct a feasibility report while also expressing verbal support for the idea.

The hull of the replica is still intact. Those behind the project say there’s lots to work with.
