Today is World No Tobacco Day, an initiative of the World Health Organization.
Local Health Promoter with the Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit Rebecca Shams tells us the tobacco industry is being targeted for its impact on the environment, this time around.
Shams says the goal is to raise awareness of how much damage the tobacco industry does to the planet.
She also says people need to know that you can get help to quit smoking for no charge.
You can also get help with cessation products like gum, through your family doctor.
If you would like to quit smoking the best first step is to contact your family doctor. They can help you get free cessation tools like gum or inhalers.
